The Wehrle-Diakonissen private clinic in Salzburg (Austria) has been producing its own solar power on 1,800 square metres of collector surface since the beginning of September 2023. The new photovoltaic system on the roof of the building is expected to generate 350,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, covering 20 per cent of the clinic’s annual consumption.
924 solar modules were installed on an area of 1,800 square metres during the construction of the new photovoltaic system at the Wehrle-Diakonissen private clinic. “Almost optimal structural conditions enabled us to utilise the entire roof area of the clinic,” says Werner Fischl, Managing Director of the clinic. Being able to cover 20 per cent of the total energy requirement with solar energy is an important further contribution to sustainability, but by no means the only one, says Werner Fischl: “In general, we pay attention in all PremiQaMed Group operations to reducing energy and resource consumption and making it more sustainable.” After the Graz-Ragnitz Private Hospital, the Wehrle-Diakonissen Private Hospital is the second hospital in the Group to be equipped with a photovoltaic system.
Corresponding projects are developed and implemented by the Group’s internal subsidiary PremiQaMed IMS, in which the technical expertise for the healthcare sector is bundled. In addition to the expansion of solar energy, this also includes, for example, the installation of charging stations for electric cars and energy-saving projects. All of the Group’s facilities – including the Wehrle-Diakonissen private clinic in Salzburg – undergo annual external energy audits and obtain 100 per cent of their electricity from renewable energy sources.
“Our employees also provide valuable input on how resources can be conserved even on a small scale,” reports Werner Fischl. “Members of the interdisciplinary sustainability team, consisting of quality management, technical management, dietology, purchasing, hygiene and nursing, act as ambassadors and contact persons for resource and environmental protection at the Salzburg site and are responsible for implementing measures to improve sustainability.”
