EPHA 2025 – OKULUS PLUS Centrum Okulistyki i Optometrii – Poland

European Private Hospital Awards (EPHA) 2025

The winner in the category: Empowering Patient Care Experience

OKULUS PLUS Centrum Okulistyki i Optometrii – Poland, has developed a groundbreaking model for presbyopia treatment through refractive lens exchange supported by visual neuroadaptation. By merging artificial intelligence, visual simulation and postoperative rehabilitation, the program offers full independence from glasses and complete visual recovery. Innovation focused on patient comfort, confidence and quality of life.

What makes your project so special?
Our project is special because it places the patient at the absolute center of every decision we make, combining cutting-edge technology with deeply personalized care. We focus on long-term visual health, not just on performing isolated procedures, which allows us to guide patients through preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic stages with continuity and trust. What distinguishes our work is the integration of advanced technologies with highly precise diagnostics, ensuring safe and predictable outcomes even in the most complex cases. We have built a multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists, optometrists, and medical staff who work collaboratively to tailor treatment pathways to individual needs.

Our project also extends beyond clinical care by emphasizing education, both for patients and professionals, helping to raise awareness of eye diseases and promoting early intervention. A characteristic feature of our business is our commitment to global health, as evidenced by Iwona Filipecka’s MD, PhD, establishment of the Foundation Ophthalmologists for Africa, through which we share our expertise, support local doctors, and treat patients in regions with limited access to medical care. This long-term, mission-driven perspective ensures that innovation is always aligned with responsibility and compassion. Ultimately, the uniqueness of our initiative lies in its ability to combine excellence in clinical outcomes with a genuine, human approach to care. Our project is also fully scalable and can be successfully replicated in other medical facilities.

What does this award mean to you and your teams?
This award is an important recognition for our entire clinic, confirming the value of our long-term commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered eye care. It honors the daily dedication of our medical and support teams, who consistently work to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate treatment. We are especially proud that OKULUS PLUS is the first Polish center to receive this distinction, sending a powerful message that courage, vision, and consistency can truly shape the future of medicine.

This achievement also demonstrates that a Polish medical institution can set a benchmark in empowering patient care and earn recognition at the European level. The award motivates us to continue investing in innovation, staff development, and initiatives that improve the patient experience. Above all, it reinforces our mission to provide care that earns the trust of our patients every single day.

The project

The initiative aimed to implement an innovative, personalized treatment model for presbyopia using refractive lens exchange (RLE) with multifocal intraocular lens implantation. The key measurable objectives were to achieve full visual acuity (1.0 or better) at far, intermediate, and near distances without glasses; eliminate the need for any vision correction post-procedure; improve binocular functions such as stereopsis and fusion; and enhance patient satisfaction with a score of ≥9/10 three months after surgery.

Expected outcomes included effective refractive error correction, high-quality vision at all distances, complete independence from glasses or contact lenses, and positive impacts on patients’ independence, work efficiency, and social life.
