EPHA awards 2022 – Greenest hospital in Europe

1st price Fundación Institut Guttmann, Spain

The Guttmann Institute is an example in terms of environmental evolution and improvement, which began at the time of its construction, through the fulfilment of requirements such as the exploitation of natural light, the use of respectful materials, the reduction of light pollution, the minimisation of energy consumption, the realisation of a therapeutic landscaping with indigenous plants and trees, etc. We also formally documented in 2008 the environmental management system that we currently maintain with the international certifications ISO 14001, 50001 and the European registration EMAS, with the aim of being an excellent, sustainable and environmentally friendly organisation.

From the General Management, and in accordance with the Foundation’s code of ethics, the General Services sector is responsible for the implementation of an environmentally friendly service. It works to maintain the highest standards of quality and service, avoiding the misuse of natural resources, applying ecological and/or natural measures in all the circuits that the different services must follow, and implementing different alternatives for the use of energy in our work processes, always on the basis of quality, safety and sustainability, with an annual budget allocated to this sector.

The department also raises awareness among employees, patients, relatives and other users of the importance of our collective and individual commitment to the environment, in line with the environmental culture established in the institution.
