Last 28 September to 2 October 2026, we had the pleasure to host a visit of the FHP – SMR, Federation des hopitaux privés – Soins de suite et de readaptation, the French branch of private hospitals specialized in Post-acute care and rehabilitation, in Portugal.
A 22-member delegation from the FHP SMR visited to learn about the links between hospitalisation, acute care and rehabilitation within care pathways.
Among others, the delegation visited the CUF – Hospitais e Clínicas Tejo, a state-of-the-art private hospital offering a structured range of services in physical medicine and rehabilitation: neurological, cardiac, musculoskeletal, oncological, sports and pelvic-perineal rehabilitation. The hospital is particularly notable for its specialised neurorehabilitation unit, which treats neurological and neurosurgical patients on an inpatient or outpatient basis. The intensive programmes bring together doctors, rehabilitation nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and neuropsychologists, utilising robotics, digital technology and virtual reality.
The day then continued at the Hospital da Luz (Luz Saúde), which also has a physical medicine and rehabilitation department providing both inpatient and outpatient care, particularly for patients in the acute and post-operative phases. The hospital also develops specific programmes, notably in cardiac rehabilitation, in collaboration with its cardiovascular centre.
