José Manuel Baltar has taken office as President of ASPE (Spanish Private Healthcare Alliance), marking a new phase for one of Europe’s leading private healthcare organisations. He officially assumed his responsibilities on 23 April, beginning a five-year mandate at the head of the association.
With extensive experience in healthcare management, including his role as Regional Minister of Health of the Canary Islands, Baltar brings a strong technical and strategic profile to the position. His appointment, reached by professional consensus, reflects broad confidence within the sector.
José Manuel Baltar has set out a clear vision focused on patient-centred care, innovation, and stronger collaboration between public and private healthcare sectors. His management plan is built around six key pillars, aiming to reinforce the contribution of private healthcare to the overall sustainability and efficiency of the health system.
ASPE represents the majority of private healthcare providers in Spain, bringing together more than 850 member organisations and 1,300 healthcare facilities. Under José Manuel Baltar’s leadership, the Alliance is expected to further strengthen the role of private healthcare as both a complementary alternative and a key partner to public services.
His presidency begins at a time when healthcare systems across Europe are facing increasing pressure, highlighting the importance of innovation, cooperation, and integrated approaches to care delivery. Baltar’s leadership is therefore expected to contribute not only to developments in Spain but also to ongoing dialogue within the European healthcare community.
