With the photo contest ‘Portraits of life in a private hospital’, the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals (APHP) challenged the professionals of its member hospitals to portray what hospital activity is all about, with the goals of encouraging artistic expression relating to the hospital environment, fostering and recognising the creativity of private hospital professionals who are passionate about photography.
This year, Oscar Gaspar, President of APHP (Associação Portuguesa de Hospitalização Privada), visited the Hospital da Luz Aveiro along with administrator Pedro Beja Afonso, to meet and congratulate the 2024 winner.
“Little Heroes” by Ana Catarina Tavares
Nurse Ana Catarina Tavares won the 1st place in both national and international competition with her photograph ‘Little Heroes’.
“When APHP launched the ‘Portraits of life in a private hospital’ competition, its aim was to stimulate the participation of healthcare professionals and give them the opportunity to express their stories about the challenges they face on a daily basis. In conjunction with the Brazilian Hospital Federation, we also organised a competition for all public and private hospitals in Portuguese-speaking countries to share their experiences. (…) The winning photo conveys the empathy of those who care and provide care, here in a paediatric context, knowing the responsibility of the mission of health professionals and the importance of supportive care and hope. Congratulations, nurse Ana Catarina Tavares, and in your person to so many doctors, nurses and technicians who have put their artistic inspiration into the photos they have shared with us.” Oscar Gaspar, President of APHP
