A report by the French Mission for Information on Psychiatric Emergencies provides a worrying assessment of the state of psychiatry in France: in addition to the saturation of emergency departments, it notes the increase in needs, and therefore the necessity to find appropriate responses and pathways. In an Odoxa survey published on February 5, 62% of French people said they had experienced a mental health problem at some point in their lives.
The “ Major Cause ” 2025 dedicated to mental health, confirmed by the French Prime Minister, is therefore an absolute necessity for public health, provided it has the resources to match its ambitions. If it is to succeed, it must involve all the players concerned, whether public, private or associative… Because it touches on a sensitive issue, the subject of psychiatry too often gives rise to political recuperation or archaic dogmatic interpretations: we need to get rid of all this if we are to rise to the challenge.
Representing 30% of psychiatry in France, private clinics make an indispensable contribution to people’s care. They strive to anticipate and “reach out”, playing a growing role in the care of emerging pathologies in the regions. Major challenges lie ahead: the preventive shift in mental health, accompanied by technological and digital innovations that will change the way we look at mental pathologies, help break down taboos and bring hope to patients and their families.
