Quirónsalud hospitals have been awarded the “Madrid Excelente Cybersecure Site”

The Quirónsalud hospitals that are part of Sermas have been awarded the “Madrid Excelente Cybersecure Site” seal for their commitment to digital protection, responsible management of technological risks, and building trust among their clients and partners.

The accreditation confirms that the four hospitals — the Fundación Jiménez Díaz (Madrid), Rey Juan Carlos (Móstoles), Infanta Elena (Valdemoro), and General de Villalba (Collado Villalba)—meet the required standards in six key areas essential for ensuring an organization’s digital security: governance and commitment, risk management, incident management, continuity and resilience, digital vendor security, and training and awareness.

Madrid Excelente has analyzed the Strategy, Ethics and Transparency, Results, Environment, Society, Employees, Customers, Suppliers, Management and Transformation, and Innovation of this healthcare network—areas that comprise the four pillars of its model: Purpose, Planet, People, and Progress

The Quirónsalud hospitals integrated into Madrid’s public hospital network (Sermas) have recently been awarded the Madrid Excelente Cybersecure Site designation, which certifies the “firm commitment of this healthcare network—comprising the Fundación Jiménez Díaz (Madrid), Rey Juan Carlos (Móstoles), Infanta Elena (Valdemoro), and General de Villalba (Collado Villalba)—to digital protection, responsible management of technological risks, and building trust among its clients and partners,” as explained by Bibiana Navarro, Director of Quality at the Madrid hospital.

“Purpose,” “Planet,” “People,” and “Process”

Thus, regarding the first of these pillars, the evaluation report notes that “the ‘Purpose,’ and in particular the Strategy area, are the most developed aspects,” given that “there is clear evidence of a commitment to a care and organizational model focused on improving health, the patient experience, and the efficient management of resources to increase the value provided to both patients and the organization,” in which the risk methodology and associated controls are also highlighted.

Furthermore, the evaluation highlights the availability of certified environmental management systems based on the ISO 14001 standard, energy efficiency systems compliant with ISO 50001, and the ECODES ZeroCO2 certification, as well as the numerous projects carried out at the four centers to reduce the carbon footprint in its analysis of the ‘Planet’ area. It also highlights the SIAP ON LINE project to facilitate patient access to Patient Care with shorter wait times and reduced case management time, enabling quick responses without the need to visit the hospital.

The “People” pillar, along with “Purpose,” received the highest score at the Quirónsalud hospitals that are part of Sermas. In this section, the report highlights humanization initiatives such as the Digital Mental Health Screening projects at the four hospitals, HumanizaTEA at Rey Juan Carlos Hospital; Treasure Map in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Infanta Elena Hospital; and Coagulín at General de Villalba Hospital. The CARE (Communication and Therapeutic Appropriateness) project is also highlighted, as well as its expansion to include patients with chronic diseases, in addition to cancer patients, and the Competency-Based Assessment Digitalization Model, which incorporates an action plan that may include training initiatives (all professionals in the healthcare network have access to Quirónsalud University), as well as initiatives for performance improvement, recognition, or capacity building, among others.

Finally, the assessment concludes that the management of “Processes” in general and healthcare processes in particular is another strength of the organization, as demonstrated by the progress in the Scribe project—expanded in terms of consultations, specialties, and professionals involved—and Power BI in Qualios, associated with processes (risks, dashboards, performance, humanization, etc.).

Based on the assessment conducted, it is concluded that the organization has achieved a sufficient level of maturity to warrant the award of the ‘Madrid Excelente Cybersecure Site’ designation,” states the assessment report.

Prior to this milestone, the four Quirónsalud hospitals within the Sermas network already had an Information Security Management System based on the international ISO 27001 standard and were recognized as certified entities under the National Security Scheme (ENS), which accredits the protection of systems in terms of information and cybersecurity. Both elements, together with the guidelines of the National Cryptology Center (CCN) and Quironsalud’s corporate policies, form an Integrated Management System that enhances confidence in the security governance of information systems, digital protection, and the responsible management of technological risks at these centers, and aligns with one of its strategic pillars: to continue improving its internal processes to protect information and become more effective and efficient, Navarro concludes.
