European Union of Private Hospitals

The first European Private Hospital Award goes to…. all of us

By Oscar Gaspar – President of the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals (APHP)

It is true, we are all to be congratulated. It is only the first edition of the European Private Hospital Awards and two major goals have already been achieved: to unite around a European initiative (through the UEHP) and to promote the participation of private hospitals from all over Europe.

We had indeed the privilege of registering a huge participation with about 70 applications, from 10 European countries: Portugal, Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Germany, Romania, and Greece.

We exceeded all expectations, and this can only mean that private hospitals in Europe are very dynamic and have many good projects to showcase. This great involvement was only made possible with the work carried out by all national associations, whom we thank and who deserve recognition.

We recall that the European Private Hospital Awards are an initiative of APHP and UEHP, in partnership with EY, and earned the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic.

We will then be awarding the European private health facilities with the best performance in seven categories, six of which are directly related to our activity – “Best prevention initiative”, “Best patient-focused initiative”, “Greenest hospital in Europe”, “Model of clinical innovation”, “Most advanced hospital in Value-based Healthcare” and “Workplace excellence” – and another category that refers to the importance of health literacy and correct transmission of information, the “News coverage of the year”.

We want to show the value and bring to light the best of what is being done in Europe in the private hospital sector.

Now it is time for the independent international jury to assess and choose the winners.

But all of us, private hospitals from the UEHP, have already won with this initiative and I very much look forward to meeting you all on 23 June in Lisbon.

Save the date: 23rd of June will be a day of gathering and celebration in Portugal.
