WHO Report: Accelerating the uptake of digital solutions by the health and care workforce

The WHO Europe published a new report titled “Accelerating the uptake of digital solutions by the health and care workforce in the WHO European Region”, in the framework of their continued support to countries to better govern the digital transformation in the health sector.

This policy brief, co-funded by the European Commission, provides a synthesis of recent findings on how the deployment of various digital health innovations can impact the health and care workforce and highlights the progress made by countries in addressing the non-technological barriers. It also provides practical policy-level suggestions to help governments create enabling environments and incentives to increase the use of digital technologies by the health and care workforce.

It lays out 6 practical steps that can make adoption smoother and more impactful:

  • Assess workers’ digitals skills
  • Develop effective policies
  • Improve digital literacy
  • Incentivize technology use
  • Provide tailored training
  • Monitor impact

In summary, the report argues that technology might be powerful, but without the right skills, policies and incentives, the healthcare workforce cannot enjoy its benefits. Change works best when it works for the people and with people.
