After a long wait, our hopes have become a reality: the European Parliament has officially adopted the European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation. As a longstanding player in European healthcare, we have sought access to healthcare data within Europe, while safeguarding the sovereignty of our social space. Tomorrow’s progress relies on today’s tools. This pivotal milestone, achieved towards the end of the Parliament’s current term, underscores Europe’s growing significance in the area of health and the imperative for collective action. The COVID-19 crisis, if anything, made visible the merits of a cohesive common policy. Many other issues will be on the agenda of the next meeting, as the June elections augur far-reaching changes. We believe in pooling resources and skills within the European social space, which must be both strengthened and protected. The efficiency of the healthcare systems supported by HTA must be the primary objective. However, the existence of discriminatory policies in some Member States regarding the authorisation or funding of our sector is regrettable. This challenge requires an open mind and practical decisions, with respect for all providers facing the same major problems due to economic constraints and limited budgets. UEHP is dedicated to integrating a new generation of healthcare professionals, advocating for environmental responsibility, and takes pride in answering the European Parliament’s summons for a vote that can redefine our collective collaborative commitments, serving all citizens. European accomplishments are underpinned by principles of free enterprise and the mobility of both people and capital. It is imperative that we remain cognizant of the challenges we confront in constructing a Europe of health—a project still in progress but increasingly indispensable. That will be the common thread of our next European Private Hospital Awards in Bucharest. Please join us! Dr Paul Garassus President of UEHP Read the full April newsletter HERE |
