European private hospitals call for greater cooperation with the public sector
Rome, January 30, 2026. The European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP) signed a joint declaration today calling for greater coordination with public health systems as a way of responding to the growing demand and shortage of human resources affecting the health sector across Europe.

The European Commission, through DG CONNECT and DG SANTE, launched in January 2025 the European Action Plan on Cybersecurity for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers.
AI in Health: what are we waiting for?
The European Commission has published the final report of the study Deployment of AI in Healthcare, prepared by PwC EU Services and Open Evidence. The study confirms that Artificial Intelligence has the potential to transform European healthcare systems by improving efficiency, reducing administrative burdens, freeing up time to care for patients, strengthening diagnosis and treatment, but also stresses that deployment remains limited and uneven across Member States.

Workforce Shortage is Top Concern for Private Healthcare Providers
The vast majority of Europe’s private hospitals are capable and willing to play a greater role in public health issues, particularly in prevention and patient screening. The shortage of healthcare professionals is seen as the main obstacle to the sector’s activity. These are some of the key findings of a survey conducted by the European Union of Private Hospitals, which involved participation from 13 countries*.

New UEHP leadership
Last 31 January, the European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP) held its elective general assembly in Paris, kindly hosted by the French Association of Private Hospitals (FHP).
Mr Oscar Gaspar was unanimously elected as the new President of the European Union of Private Hospitals for a mandate of two years.

Dr. Paul Garassus, re-elected President of UEHP for a 5th mandate (2023-2025)
Dr. Paul Garassus was unanimously re-elected in a vote held on 3.02.23, in Frankfurt am Main. Dr. Garassus is a physician, a neurologist by training and an economist. He has been President of UEHP since 2015.

Inflation in the healthcare sector requires urgent common European action
During the COVID-19 crisis, European hospitals faced major difficulties related to procurement and labour recruitment shortages. But inflation is now weakening all efforts to deliver health services in facilities. Month after month, Eurostat reports rising prices for goods and services. Annual inflation in the Eurozone is up to 9.1%, with many countries facing double-digit inflation.

THE BEST EUROPEAN PRIVATE HOSPITALS IN 2022
The 1st edition of the European Private Hospital Awards (EPHA) organised by UEHP – The European Union of Private Hospitals and APHP – The Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals, in partnership with EY, took place last Thursday, at Páteo da Galé, in Lisbon.
1st edition of the European Private Hospital Awards has close to 70 candidates
Under the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic, the first edition of the European Private Hospital Awards, promoted by the European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP) and the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals (APHP), received 67 applications from 10 European countries. The winners will be announced on 23 June, in Lisbon, at Pateo da Galé.

European solidarity facing Cancer, the iron curtain remains closed

Introduction
Europe shares the same vision when it comes to Health: create conditions for equal terms of good health among the whole European population. But can we really talk of a united Europe when it comes to cancer? We need solidarity to fight Cancer in Europe but is it possible to integrate solidarity in the fight against cancer? Many efforts have been made and clear objectives have been put forward to develop cooperative projects to limit cancer incidence and to improve European citizen wellbeing.
