JUNE 2020 – Oscar Gaspar, President of APHP and Vice President of the Executive Committee of CIP was elected Vice President of BusinessEurope for a one-year term with effect from 1 July.

APRIL 2020 – In its usual publication on the World Health Day (April 7), the Portuguese Statistics Institute (INE) published the most up-to-date data on the established capacity and the activity carried out by the country’s health system. Information from the INE reveals that there is a greater number of private hospitals and there is an increase in the activity of private hospitals in all areas.
APHP in the leadership of Medical Tourism
JANUARY 2020 – The Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals (APHP), Health Cluster Portugal (HCP) and the public agencies Turismo de Portugal (the national tourist Board) and the Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency (AICEP) signed, on 18 December, a protocol of Cooperation to internationally promote medical tourism in Portugal.

APHP co-founder of the Institute for Evidence-Based Health
SEPTEMBER 2019. The new Institute for Evidence-Based Health (ISBE), presented on September 12 at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, has APHP as founding partner, together with the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon, the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Industry Association (APIFARMA), the National Pharmacy Association (ANF) and the “Health in Dialogue” Platform.
Iberian Summit of Private Hospitals
JULY 2019. APHP and ASPE challenge Portugal and Spain to put the capacity of private hospitals at the service of the citizens. During the 2nd Iberian Summit of Private Hospitals, which took place on 30 May in Lisbon, the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals (APHP) and the Spanish Private Health Alliance (ASPE), representing the private hospitals of Portugal and Spain, presented 12 demands for the health sector.

APRIL 2019. At the end of March, a Pact for Competitiveness and Internationalization was signed between Health Cluster Portugal (HCP) and the Portuguese Ministry of Health – This Pact recognizes the current and future strategic contribution of the health sector to the Portuguese economy.
ADSE makes its relationship with private hospitals in Portugal unsustainable
MARCH 2019. The Portuguese health system is mixed. In terms of organization and provision, there is a national health service (Beveridge-inspired) and a private sector which has shown high dynamism in recent years, with private hospitals now accounting for about one third of the hospital capacity of the system (in terms of beds, specialty consultations, surgeries, etc.). On the demand side (patients) the system is also mixed since about 40% of the Portuguese have health coverage beyond the NHS: such as private insurance (personal or professional) or health subsystems for certain companies or specific sectors.
