Signature of a memorandum of understanding on the multiannual nature of hospital resources
FEBRUARY 2020 – All French hospital federations (private commercial, public and private non profit) have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Minister of Health setting minimum rates of progression in hospital financing for the next three years.

Spotlight on private emergency services
JULY 2019. Media news of June and July were marked by strikes amid public emergency rooms. Doctors and health workers denounced a major congestion of emergency rooms and warned of its consequences over their working conditions and the quality of care for patients.
Hydration of patients first
JULY 2019. At Clinique Saint Roch, a 50-bed multi-purpose facility located near Toulouse in southwestern France, where the average age of patients exceeds 80 years, a heat wave plan is activated as soon as the thermometer goes up!

MAY 2019. The Federation of Private Hospitalization (FHP) was present this year again at the international congress “Paris Healthcare Week” (PHW) from May 21st to 23rd in Paris. This must-attend event for the profession, organized by the French Federation of public hospitals, usually gathers around 30,000 visitors and 850 exhibitors.

APRIL 2019. UEHP partner CAHPP has been engaged in a sustainable development approach since 2012 and is adapting its 2018-2020 policy to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.
FHP – Creation of a “skills operator” dedicated to health
APRIL 2019. After several months of intense negotiations with social partners and many meetings with representatives of the French Government, a “Skills Operator” (funding body for continuing vocational training and apprenticeship) specific to health sector was created and officially approved by the French Ministry of Labor.
French National debate: private hospitals and clinics have contributed
MARCH 2019. The Federation of Private Hospitalization (FHP) has taken part in the national debate initiated by the French Government in a period of social tensions. In this context, FHP gave the floor to its members, directors of private hospitals and clinics, through an online consultation, composed of twenty questions, opened from January 31 to February 28 2019.
New health law
FEBRUARY 2019. On February the 13th , Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Solidarity and Health in France, presented to the Council of Ministers a draft law on the organization and transformation of the healthcare system. This bill is intended to implement the health strategy announced last september by Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic. It should be adopted before summer.

An independent private healthcare institution faces the same challenges as other hospitals such as economic return, adaptation, innovation and competitiveness but with one distinctive characteristic, the sustainability of its development. JUNE 2018. Ramsay Générale de Santé (RGDS) is the biggest French private hospital group, with 120 hospitals and health centres. It counts over 23.000 employees and 6.000 practitioners. Besides, RGDS detains 17 % of market share in France, offering medical care to 2 million patients, welcoming 32.000 newborns and 550.000 emergency care patients. One surgical operation out of 10 in France is performed by RGDS, taking a leading position in cancer treatment, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and cardiovascular surgery but also in dialysis treatment (figures 2017).
How to prepare healthcare institutions to Data security
APRIL 2018. On 29 March, the French Federation Private Hospitals (FHP) organised a half-day of work and exchanges on EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the European reference text on personal data protection. This training was led by a lawyer specialized in new technology and the Correspondent for protection of personal data from Orpéa-Clinea private health group.
FHP action: funding measures for private non-profit health institutions cancelled!
JANUARY 2017. The Council of State has condemned the French State and cancelled orders fixing the funding rates for private non-profit healthcare institutions for the years 2015 and 2016.

DECEMBER 2016. With a size of less than one-tenth of that of conventional pacemakers, the Micra GST device is the smallest pacemaker in the world, designed to provide patients with bradycardia stimulation using the most advanced technology.
What is reasonable profit?
SEPTEMBER 2016. Within the meaning of European law, health-care services are recognized as a service of general economic interest (SGEI). In order to bring France in line with EU law, the French government plans on implementing a decree for the end of 2016 to regulate reasonable profit’ for public and private hospitals.
